The San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets had an extremely entertaining game the other night. And San Antonio was one of the teams playing so when I put the Spurs and the word “entertaining” in the same sentence. You know it was good.
But what seems to happen every time I watch or even hear about the Spurs. It’s something that irks the general population. In the final moments of the game between the two Texas representatives, James Harden had the chance to go for the game winner. He got the ball, passed his man and went for the layup. But then came Tim Duncan with what seemed like a block, but after the replay, it clearly showed that he got Harden’s hand more than the ball. Here’s the play. Make your mind up.
Now the NBA are now publishing the last few minutes of every game. Detailing the performance of a referee in “clutch time”. And in this one. They judged it as a “Correct Non-call”.
Duncan jumps vertically on Harden’s layup attempt and cleanly blocks the shot. There is contact after the blocked shot, but because the shot is already blocked, the contact is incidental and deemed to have no impact on the shot attempt.
I call BS. How can that be a Non-call whereas in the Utah/Memphis game on the same night. Marc Gasol blocked Gordon Hayward’s three but the refs called that a foul?
I just don’t get it. And now the Spurs have passed the Rockets and the Trail Blazers. Unbelievable.
If you have read this and thought I’m a hater to the Spurs. You’re right. Come at me.
