Bismack Biyombo has been a vital part of the Toronto Raptors bench production and a crucial part in their 4-3 series win over the Indiana Pacers. On Sunday, the Raptors advanced to the 2nd round of the Playoffs to play vs. the Miami Heat, thanks to their game 7 win.
The NBA did their review of Game 7 and found that the the referees officiating the game on Sunday missed a Flagrant foul call. According to Joseph Casciaro of the Score:
The NBA ruled Tuesday that Raptors center Bismack Biyombo, who went on to log crucial fourth-quarter minutes, should have been assessed a flagrant-2 foul 42 seconds into the final frame.
While fighting for a rebound, Biyombo appeared to swing his right arm backward into the face of Pacers rookie Myles Turner. No foul was called on the play. However, had the correct call of a flagrant 2 been assessed at the time, Biyombo would have been ejected and the Pacers would have been awarded two free throws and possession of the ball.
The possession right after that George Hill hit a 3, cutting the score down to 7, with those 2 free throws and possession, it could have potentially been a one possession game with the pressure on the Raptors. Biyombo averaged 10 points, 11 rebounds and 2 blocks over the 7 games for the Raptors in the 1st round, and he’s been arguably their best player off the bench with Corey Joseph. Although the league will not suspend Biyombo right now, but if he receives another flagrant-2, or 2 flagrant-1 fouls, he will be suspended for one game, something the Raptors can’t afford.
