NBA Pushing To Finalize Donald Sterling’s Sale of The LA Clippers
The NBA owner’s meeting in which a vote will be cast to oust Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling is set for this Tuesday in New York. Still, the NBA is said to be open to postposing the hearing if Sterling presents a completed agreement to sell the Clippers before Tuesday. The agreement would have to include Sterling’s list of potential bidders for the team and be to the NBA’s liking financially. Postponing the hearing would primarily serve as time for the NBA to begin the vetting process with those bidders and new owners.
With the NBA adamant about washing their hands of Donald Sterling, averting Tuesday’s owners meeting and a potentially daunting lawsuit would be ideal if Sterling does decide to concede and present an active list of bidders before then. There are reportedly multiple suitors, including former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Sterling bought the Clippers for $12.5 million in 1981. The opening bids for the team are said to be flirting around $1 billion.
