The awkward part of the Golden State Warriors’ win streak (Which is TWENTY FOUR as of 12/12/15, quit adding the wins from last season) continues as the league faces yet another interim coach problem.
As we know, when the All-Star Game comes around, it is the job for the head coach of the no.1 team in the respective conferences to take the reigns and coach in the ASG. Problem is, Steve Kerr is still not coaching the Warriors. Does that mean if the Warriors still lead the West and Kerr still isn’t coaching by the All-Star Weekend, Luke Walton will coach the Western Conference in the All-Star Game? Whatever the answer is the NBA isn’t going to talk about it now.
League spokesman Tim Frank says it’s “premature” to address whether the interim coach of the undefeated Golden State Warriors could lead the Western Conference if Kerr hasn’t returned following back surgery.
The coaches whose teams have the best record in each conference following play on Jan. 31 earn spots in Toronto for the Feb. 14 game. But coaches aren’t allowed the honor in consecutive years, a rule that dates to Pat Riley’s dominance with the Lakers in the 1980s, so Kerr is disqualified.
Frank says: “At this point, it is unclear when coach Kerr will return to the sidelines. We are more than two months away from All-Star, so it feels premature to address that situation.“
Frank is right, this isn’t something to talk about now. But once February comes around and if Kerr isn’t back, then the NBA will be in a unique position. 0-0 coach in the All-Star Game? It’s possible.
