The outstanding 6-game series between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers where the Warriors took home the trophy was watched more than any other Finals before, and it had the best ratings of any other NBA Finals on ABC.
The 2015 Finals were watched by nearly 20 million viewers per game, and that number is up 30% from last year’s Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the Miami Heat, according to ESPN Media Zone. In fact, according to ESPN’s Darren Rovell, this Finals series was the most-watched NBA Finals series since Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls beat the John Stockton/Karl Malone lead Utah Jazz in 1998. The 2015 series averaged 19.94 million viewers, and the 1998 one averaged 18.9 million viewers. This finals series was so popular that it had a million more viewers than the second most watched Finals series!
Game 6, the game where the Warriors won the series, received 23.254 million viewers on average last night, and it peaked at 11:45 P.M. when 28.7 million TVs had the game on.
Clearly, the 2015 NBA Finals was a hit with the fans, and due to it being such an amazing series, it received great ratings from ABC. The Finals were great not only on the court, but also for the people filming the entire thing.
