The 2015 All-Star starters and reserves have caused a lot of controversy. And it all revolves around the voting process and the people that vote.
I said last week that fans should not be able to vote for the All-Star starters. The fans clearly take it for granted. It has turned into a popularity contest. The fans vote for their favorite player. Two players being voted as starters that I was completely baffled with was Blake Griffin and Kobe Bryant. Did you vote in Griffin, because he can dunk? Miss me with that flawed logic. And Kobe? I have 0 idea why you all think that he’s more deserving than James Harden.
But hey. I’m regurgitating what I said last week. So you all ask “What’s eating you now Charlie?” and I’ll answer that with a question.
What do Kobe Bryant, Tim Duncan and Dwyane Wade all have in common? They’re all “Legacy Picks”. What do I mean by that?
Legacy Picks are players that fans and coaches vote into the All-Star Game just because of their resume.
Now. I’m a Heat fan. I voted for Dwyane Wade. I had my reasons and they were good ones. You may not agree and I’m fine with that. But even I can admit that Kyle Korver should’ve been voted in before him. I’m not stupid. I know the Miami Heat are under .500 grasping onto life in the Playoffs. Why do they deserve 2 players to rep Miami in the All-Star Game? They don’t. It’s clear.
Which brings me to Kobe Bryant. Come on? I don’t need to explain that. I’ll skip to Tim Duncan.
This surprised me immensely. Now I get why fans voted Kobe Bryant. Because there are some NBA fans out there that are a few fries short of a Happy Meal. They see Kobe, jump up and down and then frantically type “Kobe Bryant #NBABallot”. But coaches. You sirs have NO reason to put Tim Duncan over DeMarcus Cousins. No reason at all.
You are clearly running on the fact that he has rings and the Spurs currently have a better record than Sacramento.
Last time I checked. We vote for INDIVIDUAL performances, not teams! If we’re going to go off by record then why don’t we just have Golden State Warriors face the Atlanta Hawks in the 2015 NBA All-Star Game?
The All-Star voting system is broken. That is clear and it has been made apparent by some big names.
First off. NBA fans should not have the power to vote. Personally. I think players should vote for players. The reason why we have coaches vote is because they’re at the games, coaching to beat the players they vote. So why not players?
But that clearly won’t happen. If the NBA ditched fan voting nobody would watch it. And that’s a damn shame. Because people like Damian Lillard are getting snubbed because coaches vote Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul because. Reasons.
Stop it with the Legacy Picks. You’re hurting the careers of younger players that deserve it. I hope you all enjoy watching Tim Duncan. You can thank the coaches for that.
Oh. And shout out to Charles Barkley. He got me thinking about this in the first place by explaining his reasons as to why Kevin Durant should not be an All-Star this year. He said that KD shouldn’t be in it just because he’s MVP. Not getting voted because of past achievements.
But he still went for Tim Duncan. I refer you back to the top of this article.
