More than perhaps any other professional sports league, the NBA is lenient in allowing fans to create and share videos of the on-court product. The league is taking it to an entirely new level during the playoffs with a new project called NBA Playmakers.
The project encourages fans to create videos that use league footage and place them on YouTube. It will consist of a large range of available topics including shoe reviews and trick shot compilations.
The Association is especially using the new project to promote the league during the playoffs, with the first set of videos being created focusing on the “Every Second Counts” TV Spot used by the league throughout the postseason. The league will showcase the best fan-produced versions of the video on its social media platforms as well as on a special YouTube channel, according to engadget.com.
This is a great initiative for the league. It allows the NBA to promote its brand and its product while using the creativity of fans who are passionate about the sport and the league. Allowing these fans to use league footage to create even better products is a great touch and should be a rousing success for the league as it continues its rise to being a major competitor among American sports.
