How conflicting must it be to say that your hometown team is the Sacramento Kings when you know fully well that the franchise is currently one of the most dysfunctional teams in sports today.
But it seems that hometown love supersedes how terrible the Kings are. Washington Freshman Marquese Chriss is a top 20 prospect in the upcoming NBA Draft and could possibly be drafted by the Kings at number 8. He would love a chance to play for Sac Town, but he’d also love the opportunity to play with his favourite player.
If the Kings were to select Chriss in the first round, that would be fine with him. He’d love a chance to play close to his friends and family. It also would give him an opportunity to play alongside his favorite NBA player.
“I try to play like Rudy Gay,” Chriss said. “I feel like he’s very versatile. He can play from the perimeter, he can post people up, he can put the ball on the ground consistently. I’m working on my ballhandling to get more confident with that.”
Well, he certainly is loyal to the hometown. And I’d guess it’s understandable that his favourite player is somebody with a similar build to him.
The affinity he has for the Kings and Rudy Gay is staggering. But will the Kings reciprocate?
