When David Stern retired as the NBA commissioner two years ago, he left without making a sound. He snuck out of the limelight and has stayed quiet during his retirement.
Whether you liked him or hated him as the commissioner of the NBA, you can’t deny that he did make some changes that benefitted the league today. There are some changes that are getting made just to modernize the game but Stern still did some great things for the league.
Now as he enjoys retirement, there seems to be an urging notion from friends of Stern for him to run something once again. No, not another professional sports league but instead be the Mayor of New York.
Following from Richard Johnson of the New York Post.
Friends of former NBA Commissioner David Stern are urging him to run for mayor in 2017, now that Mayor de Blasio is looking less likely to be re-elected to a second term.
Stern, a lifelong Democrat who has regularly contributed to the party, will be retired for two years in February.
“He’s pretty bored,” said one source. “He’s always been interested in politics, and he’s always been interested in running for office.”
Stern, though “flattered,” said he is not interested in running. “I remain a happy Westchester resident and am very busy as a senior adviser to a number of enterprises.”
I mean, why not? The political landscape in America today is quite ridiculous with Donald Trump running for president and someone named ‘Deez Nuts’ entering their name as a candidate for president and actually getting a following. Seriously in this country, people are supporting ‘Deez Nuts’.
Why not let David Stern be the next mayor of New York? He loves the city and could possibly help his hometown New York Knicks out once again, over 30 years later. Let’s just hope he won’t be freezing any envelopes or bending the corners of those envelopes to help the city of New York.
