NBA: Cleveland Cavaliers Fire Head Coach Mike Brown
The Cleveland Cavaliers have reportedly parted ways with head coach Mike Brown now for the second time. Brown previously served as head coach of the Cavaliers before being relieved in 2010, and now after one season of retainment, management has decided to let go of Brown once more. Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert had this to say,
This is a very tough business. Mike worked hard over this last season to move our team in the right direction. Although, there was some progress from our finish over the few prior seasons, we believe we need to head in a different direction.
The Cavaliers recently announced that interim GM David Griffin will take over that position permanently. Griffin replaced Chris Grant, the general manager who hired Mike Brown after the midseason firing of Byron Scott. This is Brown’s second firing in two seasons after the Los Angeles Lakers relieved him of his duties just five games into the 2012-2013 season. The Cavaliers finished 33-49 this season. Brown’s career record is 347-216 (61.6%).
