The NBA is not only one of the most prominent professional sports leagues in the United States but across the world. The NBA has increased its prominence in various European countries but their overseas foothold remains in China. As has become an annual tradition, the association will have certain teams rock special edition NBA Chinese New Year uniforms for particular games.
This year, the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Washington Wizards, and Toronto raptors will all have Chinese New Year jerseys. Take a look at the clean uniforms featuring the Chinese language below, courtesy of the NBA.
The Rockets will be the first team to wear the fresh new threads in a January 27th matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers. All four teams will have worn their jerseys at least once during a 17-day span beginning January 26th, in honor of the New Year starting two days later.
Five other teams including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, Brooklyn Nets, Sacramento Kings will also host Chinese New Year themed activities during this timespan.
In addition to all the festivities, Chinese legend Yao Ming will have his number 11 jersey retired for the Houston Rockets during the halftime show of a matchup against the Chicago Bulls on February 3rd. With basketball being as big as it is in China, the NBA is doing it right and paying tribute to our overseas fellow hoop fanatics.
