The NBA, FIBA, and the Finnish Basketball Association (FBA) announced on Thursday that there will be a new Basketball Without Borders camp in Finland.
Following from the NBA’s press release:
The National Basketball Association (NBA), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) and the Finnish Basketball Association (FBA) today announced the top 41 boys from 22 European countries who will travel to the first Basketball without Borders (BWB) Europe Camp in Finland, which will be held Sept. 7-10 at Kisakallio Sports Institute in Lohja. BWB, the NBA and FIBA’s global basketball development and community outreach program, is celebrating its 15th anniversary this summer.
Several current and former NBA players as well as coaches will be present at this event. The players include Cole Aldrich, Spencer Hawes, Jerryd Bayless, Andre Miller, Beno Udrih, Vladimir Radmanovich, and Ronny Turiaf. Among the coaches are Lionel Hollins, Ryan Saunders, Jamahl Mosley, and Joe Wolf.
Also present will be Hanno Möttölä, currently a coach in the FBA and previously the first Finnish player in the NBA.
Part of the event will be camps for top Finnish female players, a local youth camp, and an NBA Cares community outreach event.
According to the NBA, BWB has now reached over 2,500 kids from 131 countries and territories. There have been 43 campers drafted into the NBA, with 21 BWB members present on opening-night rosters last season.
This is a great opportunity for kids from countries that may not have quite the same opportunities as Americans. They will be able to meet and work with some of their idols as they pursue their dream of playing in the NBA.
