Every year the NBA hands out postseason awards, one day at a time. It gives everyone time to debate and discuss the decisions from the media members. Everyone freaks out for a few hours on social media for a few hours and then the next award comes. It makes for an interesting week or so.
Now the NBA will be putting a stop to that. They have announced that they will be airing the first ever NBA awards show on TNT to give these honors to the NBA’s best and brightest. From the most valuable to the best defender and even the best coach, the NBA will be handing out these awards at their own NBA awards show.
The NBA made the announcement in a press release.
The NBA announced today that the first-ever NBA Awards Show will take place in New York City on Monday, June 26, 2017. Televised exclusively by TNT, the show will feature current and former NBA players, coaches and celebrities.
The star-studded event will recognize NBA players, teams, coaches and executives for their accomplishments and performances from the 2016-17 NBA season. The show will feature the announcements of the Kia NBA Most Valuable Player, Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, Kia NBA Sixth Man Award, Kia NBA Most Improved Player and Coach of the Year.
While in previous years these awards were announced separately throughout the postseason, this marks the first time that all recipients will be honored on the same night. Additional awards will be announced at a later date as well as the venue, the host and the list of presenters.
The NBPA had something similar two years ago but apparently it didn’t work. They handed out the awards last year on social media but for this upcoming awards show, the NBPA is interested in getting a spot on the show.
Was told NBPA had been invited to present their player-voted awards on this show, too. Don't know if that will happen. https://t.co/rXmHzgxnD7
