On Monday March 2nd, the Minnesota Timberwolves faced off against the Los Angeles Clippers, which if you saw on paper, would probably not be a fun game to watch. Ironically, it was a really good game. J.J. Redick got ejected, Austin Rivers and Kevin Garnett got into it, and the Clippers ended up winning 110-105.
Now the NBA admits that they missed a call in the final minutes of the game, which evidently might have cost the Timberwolves the game. This foul, committed by Spencer Hawes on Andrew Wiggins, would have put Wiggins on the free throw line for 2 free throws.
At the end of the day, this isn’t going to change the result of the game, and I’m sure even if Wiggins made the free-throw the Clippers would have came out with a victory in the game. One question this raises is that in closer games, with teams that really do need wins, such as playoff teams, fighting for position, what will the league do then? If they miss a call in those games, it could cause tons of controversy, and at that point you can’t just hand out an empty apology.
