Spike Lee isn’t the first big name to play a big role with the 2k franchise. NBA 2K has used celebrity collaborators before. NBA 2K featured Jay-Z as an executive producer for NBA 2k13 along with Pharrell Williams curating the soundtrack for NBA 2k15 along with making a cameo in the game. Spokesman Ryan Peters told USA Today that Lee’s role was to add an actual storyline to the game.
“We just told Spike, ‘You transform the narrative, and we’ll change that into digital polygons.’ And he did that, bringing a protagonist and antagonist to the story.”
NBA 2k16 definitely already has some big hype around it and there are also rumors of some retro teams like the 2000 Los Angeles Lakers, 2001 Toronto Raptors and 2008 Boston Celtics being in the game. For now, we just have to wait and see.
