5’9″ Nate Robinson was one of the most exciting players every time he stepped onto an NBA floor. While Robinson did appear in two games for the New Orleans Pelicans last season, the electrifying point guard hasn’t held a solidified role on an NBA roster in years.
Still relatively young at age 32, Robinson has been itching to work his way back into the NBA and even wondered why LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers don’t come calling while on their relentless quest for another playmaker. On Thursday, the three-time dunk contest champion took one step closer towards achieving his goal of suiting up for NBA games once again. Following from Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports:
Nate Robinson has been vocal for weeks about wanting to return to the NBA and has taken the next step in that pursuit.
Robinson on Thursday signed a contract with the NBA Development League, his agent, Herman Manakyan, told The Vertical.
Robinson will formally enter the D-League’s available player pool once his letter of clearance returns from Israel, where he played for Hapoel Tel Aviv last season. Oklahoma City, Erie, Texas, Fort Wayne and Grand Rapids hold the top priorities in the D-League waiver order.
The decision to enter the NBA D-League seems to be a step in the right direction for Robinson as he even worked out for the Philadelphia 76ers this past month. We all know if in shape and healthy, Robinson has always been able to provide instant energy off the bench to a seemingly flat team. His gutsy performances helped the Chicago Bulls make noise in the Eastern Conference playoffs a few seasons ago.
With the 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend and the home stretch of the season rapidly approaching, Robinson is likely hopeful that some team is willing to give him a shot in hopes of him being a key piece during a playoff push.
