Lamar Cardinals star freshman guard Nate Calmese has announced that he will enter the transfer portal this offseason. After a great first season of college basketball with Lamar, the guard seems to be ready to move up to a bigger program and conference. In this era of basketball with immediate eligibility and NIL deals, this kind of thing has become more common. Players like Calmese earn more attention especially after they play well in their first year. While he may not get offers from “Blue Blood” programs, he will get offers from some very good programs.

This college basketball season as a freshman for the Lamar Cardinals, Nate Calmese averaged 17.6 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 48.1 percent and a three-point percentage of 36.7 percent. Calmese established himself as a top freshman this year and will get plenty of interest from bigger programs. While he was talented, the Lamar Cardinals did not win many games this season. The team finished with an overall record of 9-22. With the college basketball season not even completed at this time, the transfer portal is only beginning to heat up this year.
