Nate Burleson will make the job from NFL coverage to news coverage very shortly. On Wednesday morning, CBS announced that he would join Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil as the next co-host of CBS This Morning. As a result, current CBS This Morning co-anchor Anthony Mason will move over to covering “culture.”
“This is an extraordinary opportunity, and I look forward to the challenge of upholding the standard set by the legends who came before me,” Burleson said.
“Life is about being ready for the right opportunities, and I have been preparing for this moment since my first day on television.”
Burleson is best known for his 11-year career as a wide receiver in the NFL. During his time in the league, he played for the Minnesota Vikings, Seattle Seahawks and Detroit Lions. He finished his career in 2013 with more than 5,000 yards, 39 touchdowns and 457 receptions. After leaving the NFL, he joined The NFL Today broadcast team in 2017. Moving forward, he will continue to support The NFL Today team as the 2021-2022 NFL season picks up steam in September.
“Nate is an extremely gifted broadcaster, interviewer and storyteller, whose deep curiosity and enthusiasm is the perfect fit for mornings on CBS,” CBS News executive Neeraj Khemlani said.
“His wide range of experience and interests — from news to sports, from music to poetry, and from fashion to cryptocurrency — provides a unique perspective that will deepen the show’s connection with our viewers. He excites audiences in every arena, and we’re fortunate to have Nate joining Gayle and Tony at the table in September.”
