During the last few months, we’ve seen a number of big names in Hollywood swap teams like its NBA Free Agency. Notably, we’ve seen Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, Kenya Barris, Oprah, Sandra Bullock and many more sign lucrative first look, producing and creative deals with new companies. Joining the likes of DuVernay and Barris is Nahnatchka Khan. Thus far, Khan is best known for her work on Fresh Off The Boat and Don’t Trust the B*tch in Apartment 23. Today, she finalized a deal to create more well known content.
Today, Khan announced that she would be exiting her deal with 20th Century Fox Television and moving on to a four year deal with Universal Television. Following the big announcement, Universal Television President, Pearlena Igbokwe, stated, “Natch is a singular voice with a proven track record of success and versatility.” Igbokwe added, “She’s a highly sought-after writer, director, producer whose work reflects a deep commitment to the representation of women and diverse communities. We couldn’t ask for a better collaborator.”
It is unclear when the the deal will begin or how much it is worth. Nevertheless, this move does not bold well for 20th Century Fox Television. The network is currently going through a nightmare with Empire’s Jussie Smollett and Glee creator, Ryan Murphy, left not long ago as well. It will be interesting to see how 20th Century Fox Television rebounds from this setback.
