In a recent video published by VICE Sports, Myles Turner touched on several interesting subjects. From blocking LeBron James, to detailing the rookie hazing he has experienced this year, and much more, his answers are worth checking out:
“Blocking LeBron was pretty crazy. It definitely gave me some publicity, and social media blew up. Everybody back home was calling me. After the game, he (LeBron) really didn’t say anything. He just said ‘Good game young fella’, and ‘I like what you’re doing, keep it going’. As far as the block, he really didn’t say anything to me, but I’m sure there was some stuff he wanted to say”
In a regular season game against the Indiana Pacers, LeBron did what LeBron does best: Attack the basket. This time, someone was waiting to meet him at the rim, however:
Turner on his rookie hazing:
“I really haven’t been hazed that much as a rookie. I mean, before every plane trip, I have to get these breadsticks. They’re like these stuffed breadsticks, and everybody on the team loves them. Whether they eat them or not, I have to get them. The first time I got them, everybody ate them. A couple weeks after that, nobody touched them. But if I didn’t bring them, everybody would get mad at me and say, ‘Why didn’t you bring the breadsticks?’ I spend like $60 to $70 bucks getting these breadsticks every other week”.
Turner touched on many other subjects, including why he chose his college number, draft day, and when he got the phone call from coach Frank Vogel saying he’s been promoted to the starting lineup. The full video can be seen here:
Myles Turner, a Texas product, was selected #11 overall by the Indiana Pacers in the 2015 NBA Draft. At 6’11, 240 pounds, Turner is one of the youngest (20 years of age) and most promising rookies coming out of last year’s draft class. In 60 appearances with the Pacers this season, Myles Turner averaged 10.3 points and 5.5 rebounds in 22.8 minutes per contest. His ability to protect the rim and space the offense is highly coveted, and certainly will continue to be as he gains more experience and further develops his skills in the future.
