Fresh off his starring role in VH1’s The Breaks (watch this and you won’t be disappointed), Mack Wilds keeps up with the nostalgia of years past. In video for “Love In The 90z,” the singer/actor draws inspiration from a Spike Lee classic, Do The Right Thing, and executes it beautifully. Of course, the video was shot in Bed-Stuy and in the same location Lee’s film was shot — Stuyvesant Avenue between Quincy and Lexington, just a few blocks southwest of Kosciusko Street Station.
Here’s what Wilds told The FADER in an email.
“Shooting the ‘Love in the 90z’ video on the same block as the Spike Lee movie was shot was like nostalgia since that’s largely where the concept of the video is inspired from,” Wilds told The FADER in an email. “Working with Benny Boom on this visual, we were able to capture the essence of New York back in the 90z, with a current, fresh feel to it.”
And shout out to Crystal Rodriguez for providing her best Rosie Perez dance scenes and the “Radio Raheem” character.
