They’re back! After multi-year hiatus, MoviePass is set to return on September 5, 2022. However, the process will begin on August 25, 2022 as customers are encouraged to sign up on the company’s waitlist, which can be found at the MoviePass website. Those who push through the waitlist and make the final cut will be notified of their membership on September 5, 2022.
This time around, MoviePass will function a bit differently than it did at the end of the 2010s. When the service initially began to gain popularity in 2018, subscribers were able to see the best and biggest blockbusters each month for a low, monthly fee. However, the company ran into financial issues and disputes with movie theaters. Ultimately, the company shut down its mobile ticketing service in 2019 and went bankrupt in 2020.
After running into a number of issues a few short years ago, MoviePass Co-Founder Stacy Spikes was able to buy the company back in 2021. In its latest iteration, MoviePass has been compared to ClassPass. Subscribers can enroll in a few different tiers at various price points. From there, users will gain a certain number of credits that can be used to purchase tickets each month
Spikes and company have worked to address some of the issues that plagued MoviePass previously, but there are still a few questions that remain unanswered. How many credits will be included in each tier? What theaters will accept MoviePass?
“More details will be shared later,” a MoviePass spokesperson said, according to Variety.
