Morgan Freeman is officially joining the cast of the sequel to 2017’s The Hitman’s Bodyguard. According to Deadline, Ryan Reynolds, Salma Hayek, and Samuel L. Jackson will return for the sequel as it begins filming this month. The original made an eye-watering $180 million at the box office against a $30 million budget.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard will follow Reynold’s Michael Bryce as he accompanies Jackson’s Darius and his wife Sonia, Hayek, on a mission to the Amalfi Coast. No word on who Freeman will play but I’d say even ‘God’ isn’t out of the question when he’s involved so it could be anyone. Frank Grillo is also rumored to appear in the sequel in an unknown role.
Freeman appeared last in Disney’s The Nutcracker and The Four Realms as the godfather to Makenzie Foy’s Clara. He will appear next in Angel Has Fallen, the final installment in the Olympus Has Fallen trilogy. He is also the host of Nat Geo’s The Story of God, a series that explores the world’s holiest sites.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Body Guard has yet to receive a release date.
