The Dallas Mavericks sit at 40-22 with one of the more talented starting lineups in the league after signing Chandler Parsons and trading for Point Guard Rajon Rondo.
According to Steve Kyler from Basketball Insiders The Mavericks might be forced to make a big choice this off season with Monta Ellis deciding to opt out after this season.
Since arriving in Dallas in the off season in 2013-2014 Ellis has been Mr. Consistency for Dallas providing Dirk Nowitzki with a go to scoring option besides himself.
Ellis seeks a multi year deal and with the salary cap rising this off season he could get paid big money which we know Owner Mark Cuban is not afraid to shell out the cash if it’s necessary.
In this case it is necessary for Dallas, but with Rajon Rondo heading into free agency they’ll have to figure out how to spread the wealth while adding depth to improve the roster.
Ellis should receive a lot of interest and teams like The Knicks and Lakers will kick the tires, but Mark Cuban is an aggressive Owner and will do everything in his power to keep his guys there if they’re wanted.
