With the Mavericks being down by three to the Spurs at halftime of their game Tuesday night, something must have gone off in Monta Ellis’s head telling him he needed to go off and bring his team to victory. Ellis did just that by scoring 38 points, which matched his season high for points scored in a game.
Ellis’s monster game also came with 5 assists, 2 rebounds, and 5 steals in 40 minutes of action. Matched up against Danny Green, Ellis made the most of his opportunities, and lead his team to the come from behind victory over the defending NBA champions.
The Mavs are now 45-27, and hold the 7th seed in the Western Conference, while the Spurs hold a record of 44-26, and are currently seeded 6th in the Western Conference. If Ellis is able to perform anywhere close to how well he was able to perform against the Spurs, the Mavs could potentially leapfrog the Spurs in the standings, and potentially make a little run in the playoffs. With the amount of shots Ellis enjoys taking on a nightly basis, production numbers like these should not surprise any team taking on the Mavs.
