‘Monsters University’ comes out as the winner in this weekends box office brawl for the second week in a row. The film brought in $46.2 million and brings its two week total to $171 million.
‘The Heat’ also sizzled this weekend. The cop comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy comes in the runner up slot with $40 million. This is the biggest box office debut for both McCarthy and Bullock.
‘White House Down’ did not have as much luck at the box office. The film brought in $25.7 million dollars; about $10 million less than what analysts predicted. This could be a potential bomb for Sony since the film had a pricy $150 million budget.
The upcoming holiday weekend could save the film, but it will have tough competition from the minions of ‘Despicable Me 2’ and Disney’s ‘Lone Ranger’
