Moderna has shared promising news regarding their COVID-19 vaccine trials. According the company, their vaccine is more than 94% vaccine.
Moderna’s most recent study involved 30,000 volunteers. Over the course of four weeks, 15,000 received the vaccine and the others did not. During the study, 95 of the participants tested positive for coronavirus. Of those 95 participants, only five received the vaccine.
“This is a pivotal moment in the development of our COVID-19 vaccine candidate,” Moderna CEO Stéphane Bancel said.
“Since early January, we have chased this virus with the intent to protect as many people around the world as possible. All along, we have known that each day matters.”
This study comes one week after Pfizer reported that their COVID-19 vaccine is more than 90% effective. Both companies plan to apply for emergency authorization. By the end of next year, the two companies hope to produce approximately 20 million doses each.
