Last year, Hip-Hop lost one of its most iconic voices when Prodigy tragically passed away at the age of forty-two. During the course of his lifetime, the rapper was a member of the legendary group, Mobb Deep. For over two decades, Havoc and Prodigy gave the world timeless classics such as “Shook Ones”, “Quiet Storm” and “Hey Luv”. The duo even appeared on records with The Notorious B.I.G, 50 Cent and Lil’ Kim. As recently as 2014, the legendary rap group put out their eighth studio album, The Infamous Mobb Deep. In Prodigy’s passing, the legacy of the group lives on.
Today, Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda released a new song from Havoc and Prodigy that was inspired by his play, Hamilton. The track, “Boom Goes The Cannon”, features the New York rap group trading bars back and forth like old times. The rap group raps, “We are at war, no man is safe, you can’t hide forever/Die on the battlefield to rise up and take power/There’s 32,000 troops in the New York harbor/We’re outgunned, out-manned, and outnumbered.”
The track is not believed to be on the rumored Mobb Deep album, which appears to be in the works. During a recent interview with MSNBC, Havoc said, “I’m actually currently working on the new album in conjunction with the family. It’ll be out there pretty soon, before the end of the year. Before the end of the year it’ll be out.” In the meantime, check out “Boom! Goes The Cannon”
