Mo Williams’ 14-year NBA career may be over. The reserve point guard ended his 2016 campaign with the Cleveland Cavaliers, celebrating an NBA championship. Now as 2017 gets started, Mo is currently a free agent point guard.
The veteran guard didn’t start his likely final season in the NBA on a good note. He reportedly retired over the summer, then unretired. But he also didn’t report to Cavs camp, never played in a game and to cap it all off, he also had a mysterious offseason surgery.
With Williams not touching the floor once for the Cavs, he was dead money. So they traded him as a part of acquiring Kyle Korver. He was sent to the Atlanta Hawks as a piece in the deal, and now he’s going to be traded to the Denver Nuggets and then waived.

The Atlanta Hawks are trading guard Mo Williams to the Denver Nuggets, clearing the way to sign Gary Neal to a 10-day contract, league sources told The Vertical.
Atlanta will send Williams and cash to the Nuggets, who’ll waive Williams, league sources said.
The Hawks will receive a $2.2 million trade exception in deal, which will be finalized Wednesday, sources said.
For Denver, Williams’ $2.2 million contract gets the team within $7.66 million of the NBA’s salary cap floor. The deal nets the Nuggets approximately $1 million in savings – plus whatever undisclosed cash considerations that Atlanta sent as a sweetener in the deal.
Denver also sends the draft rights to Cenk Akyol, who was drafted in 2005 and has never – and likely will never – come to the NBA.
The two teams also confirmed the deals today.
Also following the deal, the Hawks officially signed veteran swingman Gary Neal to a 10-day contract.
