Cleveland Cavaliers depth was a problem coming down the stretch into the NBA Finals. You don’t expect three starters to have season-ending injuries but it is a part of the game. Injuries happen. When the injuries happen, depth is needed to answer those injuries. A team needs a good bench to succeed in the NBA, as we saw in the NBA Finals with the Golden State Warriors.
There were already questions about the Cavaliers point guard depth throughout the season. Kyrie Irving, of course, was the starting point guard but backing him up was Matthew Dellavedova. The Australian guard was thrown into the fire for game 2 of the NBA Finals after Kyrie went down with his season-ending injury and was forced to start against the NBA MVP, Stephen Curry. He proved his worth for 2 games, helping the Cavs go up 2-1 in the series. But then it all went tragically downhill for Delly as he cramped up and he was never the same.
His downfall may now be the reason for the Cavs to look elsewhere. Possibly bring back a point guard who already made a finals run with LeBron James.

Soon-to-be unrestricted free agent point guard Mo Williams is “more than interested” in making a return to Cleveland, sources close to the guard informed Northeast Ohio Media Group.
However, due to their own pending powerhouse free agents, the Cavaliers will be limited in what they can offer. All they will have at their disposal is the taxpayer mid-level exception and the veteran’s minimum. Williams is seeking a multiyear deal and the Cavaliers and Hornets are two of the teams at the top of his wish list, a source revealed.
Getting Mo Williams on the cheap would be ideal for the team. To bring in a backup point guard who has been with this organization before, played with LeBron and knows what Cleveland is all about, would be huge. The Cavs can even let Dellavedova walk and they can use some money elsewhere to keep other guys.
It could work out well for both sides and there could be a reliable point guard coming in to help out Kyrie Irving, because with Matthew Dellavedova’s breakdown in the finals, one has to wonder his worth.
