Even a few thousand miles away from the Garden State, the musical connection between two New Jersey natives, MoRuf and SZA, remains strong. Longtime friends an entire coast away from home, the two team up to deliver “PT Cruiser,” a soothing R&B and Hip-Hop fusion cruising down the PCH with trip down memory lane. Both remain agile from start to finish, effortlessly dipping in and out of rapping and singing as they reminisce about falling in love, falling out of love, and the stinging reminder of faded relationships.
“Cooler, wish I never knew ya/We were in the backseat of your momma PT Cruiser, yeah/Hallelujah, wish I never knew ya (Never)/We were in the backseat of your momma PT-PT-PT,” MoRuf sings.
“New b—h wanna see me, we could box/She just wanna be me, that’s a fact/Driving home, I think of you a lot/I just want my old n—a back,” SZA raps.
“PT Cruiser” feels like the last slice of summer and warm weather as a blistering July and August give way to a cooler September and October for those back in their home state. Thankfully, SZA and MoRuff can make listeners feel like they just stepped off a five-hour flight with their easygoing delivery and soothing production from the likes of Jesse Boykins III, Nate Bajar, MELO-X, Aspene Taylor, and Matt Cody.
The nostalgic single sets the stage for MoRuff’s next project, teased for 2026. With SolChyld’s new project, Chris Patrick touring with JID and MoRuff teaming up with SZA en route to a new album, New Jersey appears to be in a good place as the calendar inches into the new year.
