On Saturday, December 9, Miyo Yoshida defeated Ebanie Bridges by unanimous decision at the Chase Center in San Fransisco, California to win the IBF Bantamweight Championship.
Yoshida’s latest performance was powered by a relentless style led by her right hand. Bridges grew frustrated with Yoshida as the fight wore on, but she was able to extend her lead on the scorecards as she proved to be comfortable boxing from the outside. At the end of ten rounds, all three judges delivered the following scores in her favor: 99-91, 97-93 and 99-91.
Yoshida was able to emerge with the win, but many did not expect her to have her hand raised after ten rounds. She walked into the ring as a 7/1 underdog after losing three of her five previous fights. However, she was able to prove her doubters wrong and become a two-division champion.
Meanwhile, Bridges falls to 9-2 with four knockouts. Bridges lost her first title fight against Shannon Courtenay in April 2021 before winning four consecutive fights and claiming the IBF Bantamweight Championship in the process.
