Oklahoma City Thunder big man Mitch McGary’s five-game suspension has been extended to 15 games after the former Michigan Wolverine violated the NBA’s drug policy yet again. From the NBA’s official announcement:
The NBA announced today that Mitch McGary of the Oklahoma City Thunder has been suspended without pay for a minimum of ten games for violating the terms of the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program. His ten-game suspension will begin when he has completed serving his five-game suspension under the NBA/NBPA Anti-Drug Program, which was announced on July 8, 2016.
McGary was drafted by the Thunder 21st overall in 2014 after choosing to forgo his junior and senior years at the University of Michigan. Had McGary not declared for the draft, he would have had to sit out his junior season after — you guessed it — testing positive for marijuana.
McGary, often dealing with injuries and drug suspensions, has yet to make a major impact for OKC. He appeared in just 32 games for the Thunder over the course of his rookie season, but showed promise, averaging 6.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 15.2 minutes per game.
Last season, however, McGary played a total of just 72 minutes for the Thunder, and was in and out of the D-League all year.
