The Los Angeles Lakers just can’t get enough of Byron Scott as it seems. I mean the players can’t stand the guy but the higher ups and GM Mitch Kupchak are completely fine with Scott.
Earlier in the season when the Lakers couldn’t buy a win. Scott’s job was in question, the Lakers said that he will coach until the end of the season. I’m not sure what has changed in terms of improvement but it looks as if the Lakers, specifically Kupchak have gone the other way in terms of Scott’s job security.
“If you asked our young players, I think there would be a mutual respect, as you might expect maybe between a parent and a child,” Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak told The Times on Sunday before the Lakers lost a slow-speed chase to the Utah Jazz, 86-74.
“In other words, I’m going to love you, I’m going to bring you along, but every now and then, I’ve got to teach you the right way to do things….
“Every coach chooses to bring along young players differently,” Kupchak said. “Some coaches will not play rookies at all. Some will give them more leeway than others. They’re young players and they’re playing big minutes.“
I don’t even mind the disciplinary stance Byron Scott takes, it’s just that fact that we know about it every time. The kid can’t stop talking! And he has pretty much given Kobe a free pass to do and say what he likes. Like that ‘lightskin’ thing. I’m surprised that wasn’t a serious thing. No attempts at reeling Kobe in. I know it’s his farewell tour but come on.
