Missy Elliott took her vibrant energy to Amazon Music to discuss her latest project Iconology as well as her relationship with Timbaland and women in hip-hop.
2019 proves to be a comeback year for Missy Elliott even though her impact never left. As a rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer, Missy Elliott’s influence can be seen in the songs and videos of new hip-hop artists today. Finally being awarded with the well-deserved Video Vanguard award during the 2019 Video Music Awards, Missy Elliott looks to prepare for a full-force return to the spotlight.
Ahead of the program, the Virginia artist released Iconology, a short EP for fans new and old. “There’s a lot of things that I’m trying to complete before the end of the year. I don’t want to give away too much because I know that when my fans see it, it’s a wrap.” says Missy Elliott to Amazon Music.
She also discusses how the new wave of women in hip-hop provide balance to a male-dominated genre.
“It feels good to see a slew of women taking over. It feels good because there was a time where there was myself, Lil’ Kim, Foxy Brown, Lauryn Hill, Da Brat, Trina. It was so many of us out at one time. And it feels like that — that wave that it was. And I think we need that. We don’t need just a one-sided perspective of life. You know? We need a man’s perspective and we need a woman’s perspective.” says Missy Elliott.
