As the country continues to power through an extended period of darkness, the Minnesota Freedom Fund has offered a bright spot. In just under two weeks, the Minnesota Freedom Fund has raised approximately $20 million. In the wake of George Floyd’s death, celebrities such as Noname, Jessie Reyez, Aminé and others have challenged each other to donate via social media. As a result, their followers and fans have matched their enthusiasm.
“Everyone around the world is ready for justice,” Minnesota Freedom Fund Executive Director Tonja Honsey said.
“They’re ready for real change, and they’re supporting that,” Honsey continued.
The Minnesota Freedom Fund works tirelessly to provide bail money for those who need it as they await trial. This organization has been vital during uprisings in Minneapolis as hundreds have been arrested during protests.
Around the country, many other organizations continue to offer the same resources. Peoples City Council Freedom Fund, Colorado Freedom Fund, Free Them All and a number of other organizations are working around the clock as protests continue nationwide.
