Houston Rockets owner Leslie Alexander recently let it be known that he was going to be selling the Houston Rockets. With the recent influx of money coming to the league from a television deal, jersey sales and ad sponsorships there appears to be no better time to be an owner in the league or being an owner willing to sell their team.
With Alexander looking to move on from the Rockets, there are going to be a number of potential suitors who won’t be able to buy into the team and it could be the perfect time for other teams to sell portions of their franchise. Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov has been looking to add another member to his ownership group in the past before just buying the others out. Now he might be looking to bring on someone else to buy a stake in the team.
Following comes from Josh Kosman and Brian Lewis of the New York Post.
Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov, while focused on selling a minority stake in the franchise, has warmed recently to the possibility of offering a controlling slice of the team, sources close to the situation said.
The change of heart comes after the initial reaction to the minority stake sale was weak — and with interest in the Houston Rockets sale heating up, one source said.
The Nets believe some of the suitors who look at the Rockets will also take an interest in them, sources said.
“As word gets out about the new Nets process, some of the Rockets interest may spill over,” a source said.
“A lot of Chinese money will look directly at Houston,” a sports industry source not directly involved in the Nets or Rockets sales said.
