The ribbon has been cut in the ceremonial opening of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn earlier today (the official opening will be when rapper Jay Z begins a series of shows next week), but owner Mikhail Prokhorov hasn’t forgotten his original promise when he first bought the franchise in 2009: a championship is coming.
The Russian billionaire had promised to bring Brooklyn a winner within five-years, during the opening today he said he expects a championship within three.
“I assure you, we are bringing a team that is worthy of this great arena and this great borough.” Later, he added that “I still expect a championship within three years.”
