The Panthers have re-signed fullback Mike Tolbert. Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer was the first to report the move. It’s a two year deal worth $2 million.
The deal is a reasonable rate for a player who is arguably the best fullback in the league. Tolbert was the only pure fullback on the free agent market. Tolbert now returns for a 5th and 6th season in Carolina. He has around 1,600 all purpose yards during his career in Carolina.
Tolbert, 30, is coming off a pro bowl season in 2015. He is a great fit for the Panthers run heavy offense that includes Jonathan Stewert and of course Cam Newton. In a pinch he can also play running back serving as a crucial part of goal line plays. Leaving Carolina seemed out of the question for Tolbert.
