Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has informed his supporters that he will not run for President in the next general election. The former Trump administration official shared the news during a recent Fox News appearance.
“We’re not going to join the race in 2024,” he told Brett Baier of Fox News.
“We came to the conclusion that this wasn’t the moment for us.”
Currently, the field of Republican candidates competing for the party’s nominations includes Donald Trump, Nikki Haley and Asa Hutchinson. There is also a strong belief that Mike Pence and Ron DeSantis will enter the race later this year. Not to mention, Tim Scott and John Bolton may also enter the race. Pompeo may not be a part of this year’s field, but he has not ruled out the idea of running in the future.
“To those of you this announcement disappoints, my apologies,” he added.
“And to those of you this thrills, know that I’m 59 years-old. There remain many more opportunities for which the timing might be more fitting as presidential leadership becomes even more necessary.”
