The Portland Trail Blazers have agreed to a buyout with forward Mike Miller, according to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports. The 15 year veteran was traded to Portland by the Cleveland Cavaliers in a cap saving trade earlier this summer and did not play a single game for the team.
According to Charania, the Denver Nuggets have heavy interest in bringing Miller. The team has fourteen guaranteed contracts, leaving only one roster spot open for Miller or another player. The fit seems somewhat strange as the Nuggets are not near contending for a playoff spot this season, and Miller will likely look to join a team that can help him win his third championship. Nevertheless, his veteran presence and championship experience can be useful for a young team like Denver.
Another team to look out for is the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team already has fifteen guaranteed contracts, but they could waive someone in order to bring in Miller. Miller played two years under new Thunder head coach Billy Donovan at Florida.
Mike Miller has been in a steady decline for years now as injuries have taken their toll on his body. Last season, he averaged a lowly two points per game for the Cavaliers. However, he has a reputation for hitting big shots in the playoffs and his experience and leadership can be worthwhile qualities for a contending team this season.
