Mike Gesicki is set to receive the franchise tag from the Miami Dolphins in a deal that would pay him close to $11 million. Currently, there’s no talk about a long-term deal in the making.

Gesicki, drafted in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, is another tight end that gets the tag this year joining David Njoku from the Browns and Dalton Schultz from the Cowboys. As of late, he has become one of the top weapons for the team and QB Tua Tagovailoa.
Each year of his career has come with improvement, in his first pro year he shared the starter position with Nick O’Leary. This season, he was second in both receptions (73) and yards (780) just behind the rookie wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. He also caught two touchdowns.
As the Dolphins keep building a contender for the near future, keeping Gesicki gives them a solid option as a pass-catcher tight end.
NFL teams have until Tuesday afternoon to designate their franchise tag player.
