The Warriors drafted Dunleavy third-overall in 2002. He played in Golden State from 2002 until the 2006-07 season, when he was traded to the Indiana Pacers. He also spent time with the Milwaukee Bucks, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers and, most recently, the Atlanta Hawks.
Dunleavy was waived by the Hawks in June of 2017.
As a player, Dunleavy was a 6-foot-9 sharpshooting wing. For his career, he averaged 11.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game on .441/.377/.803 shooting splits. He shot over 40 percent from 3-point range in four of his 15 seasons.
The Warriors will look to defend their title in 2018-19, trotting out a similar squad to previous seasons, with the addition of DeMarcus Cousins.
Dunleavy isn’t the first ex-NBA player hired by Golden State. Steve Kerr, the team’s head coach, enjoyed a long playing career. Former assistant coach Luke Walton spent 10 years in the league. Plenty of other current Warriors staff members – including Willie Green, Jarron Collins and Steve Nash – are former players as well.
