WBO Junior Lightweight Champion Mikaela Mayer is fresh off of a unanimous decision win against Erica Farias last week. However, she is already back in the gym and ready for the future. This fall, it appears that she will defend her title this fall and look to capture yet another belt against IBF junior lightweight titleholder Maiva Hamadouche this fall. A date has not been set, but Top Rank indicates that the bout will take place anywhere between October and December. Promoters have not yet found a venue either.
“I’ve been pretty open about the fact that I want to unify this division,” Mayer said about a potential bout with Hamadouche.
“I don’t want to wait. I don’t want to fight non-champions next. I want to go straight into unification bouts.”
Mayer-Hamadouche is not the only unification bout that Top Rank is looking to make sometime between October and December. Interim WBO Junior Lightweight Champion Shakur Stevenson is expected to fight WBO Junior Lightweight Champion Jamel Herring sometime between October and December. Much like the Mayer-Hamadouche bout, a specific date and venue are unclear.
