There’s much more to an artist than his notoriety and his album sales. With increasing number of artists who flood are timelines with new music, it’s easy to lose track of those who prefer quality over quantity. Unfortunately many artists of the new school that prefer quality over quantity get overlooked. As a result, many will push the likes of Noname and Saba to the side when discussing the best projects of the year. Among the many new artists who prefer quality over quantity is fellow Chicago rapper, Mick Jenkins. After taking a two year break after dropping The Healing Component, Mick Jenkins is back with a new full length project called Pieces of a Man.
Jenkins newest album features the likes of Julien Bell, Mikahl Anthony, Ben Hixon and the legendary, Ghostface Killah. His newest project is a seventeen track journey that explores the topics of mentorship, manhood, masculinity and more. On tracks like “Understood”, Jenkins raps, “Chevy sitting up on the ‘renzos/Old head hit me with the head nod/Understood a nigga like 10-4/10-4, 10-4, 10-4.” Listen to “Understood” and the entire album above.
