Charlotte Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has once again found himself on the losing end of an injury. In Saturday’s preseason contest against the Orlando Magic, the former second overall pick took a nasty fall and fell on his side.
X-rays revealed after the game that Kidd-Gilchrist had dislocated his shoulder. As a result, he will miss the Hornets’ next preseason game on Sunday against the Miami Heat. So far, the team has not released any timetables but similar injuries can keep players out for several weeks and up to a few months. If the timetable is indeed the former, Kidd-Gilchrist could find himself back in the starting lineup by opening night, or perhaps miss only a few games. If it is the latter, however, the Hornets could be seeing extended minutes from the likes of Marvin Williams and PJ Hairston.
Kidd-Gilchrist who signed a large extension just recently, was expected to continue in his development process and improve just as he has the last few seasons. If he is to take the next big step in becoming a big part of Charlotte’s future, he must stay healthy. So far in his career, he has been unable to do just that.
