Not sure if you’ve heard. But Kobe Bryant recently passed Michael Jordan on the NBA All-Time scorers list. I know right?! Breaking news.
But what is new about Kobe’s chase to greatness is how Michael Jordan has responded to it. Despite Kobe’s methods you all have to respect what he has done and what he potentially can do. He is a few thousand points away from 2nd place All-Time which is currently owned by Karl Malone. And according to CSN Chicago, Michael Jordan has told Kobe to go for Malone.
Bryant, who will miss his second-straight game Thursday night because of fatigue, is sitting on 32,365 career points, a few thousand shy of Karl Malone’s 36,928. Bryant won’t get there this year, but barring any health concerns, he could challenge Malone next season. Bryant recently spoke to Jordan as he continues to climb the all-time scoring ladder.
“If you had one guess of what he said, it was, ‘Go get Karl.’ The competitor never stops.”
Kobe will never stop. Even though he knows of father time which is quickly coming up on him. He won’t stop. At some point. All of us will look at Kobe and say “just retire”. And I guarantee you. Kobe will be the last person to have his say on retirement.
As to whether he’ll catch Malone? Well I’d sure like to see him try.
