Universal debuted footage from the upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, during CineEurope in Barcelona. The presentation reportedly included “surprising” footage from the film, including a scene centered around the “Thriller” video in which Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, is playing the lead role and wearing his iconic red jacket.
“Unpacking the life of the King of Pop has been a daunting task,” Michael producer Graham King said.
“There are biopics — and then there’s Michael Jackson.”
According to Nancy Tartaglione of Deadline, the footage “positively wowed” the audience in Barcelona. Set to be released on April 18, 2025, the film puts Jaafar Jackson in the driver’s seat as Michael Jackson with a collection of Hollywood star at his side, including Colman Domingo, Nia Long, Miles Teller, Kat Graham, Larenz Tate, Kendrick Sampson and Laura Harrier among others. Filming for the project has reportedly wrapped up and Antoine Fuqua is editing the movie currently.
Michael is the centerpiece of an upcoming 30-film release schedule for Universal. The studio is also set to release Wicked, Despicable Me IV, the live adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon and Piece by Piece, the animated Pharrell Williams biopic.
