Michael Carter-Williams Won’t Fully Participate In Sixers Training Camp
The Philadelphia 76ers are preparing to open up their training camp at Stockton College, and head coach Brett Brown has revealed that Sixers point guard Michael Carter-Williams will not participate fully in the team’s training camp,
He will not be a full participant in camp. He will be more of a skeleton guy. Do a lot of shooting, but obviously still be a part of everything that we’re doing.
Carter-Williams is still recovering from a torn labrum in his right shoulder. He had surgery on the shoulder in May. Brown says that Carter-Williams’ timetable is still visibly ahead of schedule,
I think if you spoke to his doctors they’d say that everything is in fact a little bit ahead of the game. What does that mean in regards to when he’s actually going to play an NBA game? We still don’t know.
On MCW’s rehab:
I think he’s taken his time and handled it really professionally. We’ve taken the restrictions, and through core work, and gaining weight, and form shooting, made the time work.
Brown also noted that Carter-Williams has added 11 or 12 pounds to his frame. He also cited Tony Wroten as a preseason development goal while MCW continues to recover,
At the start of our preseason games I’m expecting to give Tony the ball. My intentions are to give him the ball and grow him while Michael is out.
[Wroten] feels he’s going to be more mature running a team and understanding the responsibilities of running a team, and I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and give him the ball and help him succeed.
Youth and development are the two big themes of today’s 76ers team. We’ll see how the progression of Carter-Williams, the 2013 Rookie of the Year, translates in his sophomore campaign, but likely not until the regular season tips off.
