Sorry 76ers fans, but the only hope at doing well this season rested on Michael Carter-Williams and now it is expected that he will be out until February.
According to the Philly Daily News:
“I heard somebody say 2 months. I don’t know where that information came from. That’s inaccurate,” the coach told reporters [Tuesday] after the Sixers’ shootaround in Syracuse, N.Y., in preparation for the game against the New York Knicks.
MCW, the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder in early May. He said Monday he was told his recovery period would be 6 to 9 months. Carter-Williams has been able to do a lot of drills with the team since training camp, but is still not allowed to play during contact drills.
This is a huge blow for the Philadelphia 76ers who are trying to rebuild around a very young core. Michael Carter-Williams was a big part of that piece and he was hoping to contribute to the team. During the offseason there had been talks about him being trading really hard, but obviously died down. He first got injured in May and it was reported to be a 2-4 month injury, but now it seems there is more to it. Let’s hope the 76ers can figure something out in terms of the Point Guard position.
